Car Overview

ā€œIt was at Pacifica, Chrysler's design studio in Carlsbad, California where the idea to make a factory hotrod first came about. According to Kevin Verduyn, a former Chrysler designer, an intern threw out the notion of designing a hotrod when they were brainstorming. After being greenlit for production, the Plymouth Prowler production model was revealed in 1996 and finally came to market in 1998 amidst quite the media fanfare.ā€ Motorious.com

For consignment, a 2001 Plymouth Prowler Mulholland Edition convertible with a title verified 71,343 actual miles. This is one of just 1,281 Mulholland editions with exclusive dark blue paint and pinstripe and this one includes the trailer. Named of course, for legendary Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles that snakes along the top of the Santa Monica Mountains with endless views of the L.A. basin on one side and the valley on the other.

Exterior
Black bumpers and gravel guards on the rear fenders contrast blend nicely with the Prowler Midnight Pearl Metallic paint, and shoulder lines are dressed up with custom pinstriping. You'll have more storage than most Prowler owners as this has a painted trunk mounted to the back and the matching trailer towing behind, designed to mimic the shape of the sloping deck lid and integrated tail lights, and this one wears a protective bra. Back to the car where heavily staggered wheels were standard with 20-inch in back and 17-inch in front, chrome five spokes that enhance the car's profile and add to the incredibly wide rear section, and naturally, the trailer wheels match! Overall, the paint, trim, and canvas top are in very nice condition with imperfections noted as some scuffs on the rocker panels, a touched up scratch, and scuffs on the chin.

Interior
Solid black plastic door panels, both in nice shape, open wide and have integrated speakers embedded. Pillowy black leather bucket seats combine comfort and sportiness, topped by roll bar headrests and other than some light compression on the driver's side, they appear in very good condition. A robust black steering wheel frames the column mounted tachometer while the gauges are moved to the center of the dash in a color keyed faceplate and white face dials. Vents top a center stack that contains the stock AM/FM/CD player with the disc changer situated behind the seats. A basic A/C panel then follows leading the eye to a chrome based housing that surrounds the black booted shifter in front of the requisite cup holder, all over nice, gray carpet and Prowler mats. Under the rear hatch is a thin compartment above which the convertible top is stowed. The interior presents in very nice condition with no major cosmetic flaws.

Drivetrain
Clean and uniformly black, we find the 3.5 liter V6 under the hood, fuel injected and rated at 253 horsepower. An AutoStick 4-speed automatic transaxle sets it in motion, planting the power in back through 3.89 gears.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust and some residual oil is seen on the driver quality but otherwise clean underside where the dual exhaust flows through original equipment, ending with chrome tips. Power disc brakes are employed on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil overs on the front and rear independent systems.

Drive-Ability
We love representing Prowlers. They're often customized and this one is the first Mulholland edition we've seen! It performs very well, with great road holding capabilities and plenty of power for spirited accelerations, despite what detractors say. This well maintained version passes our functionality test with a score of 100 and we head back to find a long spot in the mall for this modern hot rod and its trailer. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

It's honestly never a dull moment in the Prowler. We don't leave the confines of our test loop, but we know if we did, all eyes would be on the Prowler. If you don't like conversing with people at stop lights and gas stations, get a Camry. But if you want to enjoy the adventures of the road and have the spotlight, the Prowler is the instant show car that you can drive and enjoy on a regular basis. And with all this storage, overnight trips, including to Prowler gatherings, is going to be a breeze!
