The 1970 Barracuda took the media by storm, showing up on many magazine covers in the fall of 1969 and early 1970. Back in the day, many of them were sold for everyday use, with only the most deliberate buyers opting for the now-rarer-still 426 Hemi engine when new. This car on offer was one of those that first arrived from the factory with Chrysler’s standard 318 CI V-8 but is now fully refreshed as a deluxe example of the original R-code Hemi release.

In addition to being restored as a Hemi Cuda replica with a lot of those “what if” options, this Plymouth has been upgraded to even better than new thanks to its 472 CI second-generation-design Hemi engine. The engine, residing under the classic shaker hood scoop, is mated to a modern Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission; a Dana rear end and an upgrade to 4-wheel disc brakes are also part of the changes.

The factory offered numerous ways to order the new E-body platform to your desired specifications, things that would have pushed the 1970 factory cost up. Beyond its driveline changes, a lot of that other special equipment has been installed on this replica. For instance, on the exterior, the paint is highlighted by a body-colored front bumper and matching outside sport mirror, a rear Go Wing pedestal-mount decklid spoiler, black hockey-stripe graphics and ribbed lower rocker moldings.

The interior is done in rich leather upholstery and features high-back front bucket seats, a booted Pistol Grip floor shift, a Rallye dash with the clock, tach and 150 MPH speedometer, and a three-spoke sport steering wheel. One notable upgrade is an option not offered in any factory Hemi model: modern air conditioning. The final touches are aftermarket Rallye-style wheels that measure 17 inches and wear a set of wide blackwall street tires.
