In 1969, ā€œClean Ronnieā€ Sox and the factory-backed Plymouth team of Sox & Martin ruled the roost in drag racing using A-body Barracudas as their weapon of choice. Though not originally converted by Hurst, this car was built by Greg Fernald at SS & AFX as a tribute to the late Mr. Sox with the expressed permission of his wife Diane and Sox’s longtime business partner Buddy Martin. Called "The Avatar," this Sox & Martin-themed Hemi Mopar captures both the unmistakable look and professional-level spirit of this legendary team. The era that those original 1968 cars raced in is still fondly recalled, when factory racing packages and seasoned drivers were truly pitted against each other. During this period of the ā€œwin on Sunday, sell on Mondayā€ philosophy, Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin helped define drag racing’s ā€œgolden eraā€ of serious Super Stock.

Power here comes from a 426 CI Hemi V-8 engine, complete with the Cross Ram intake manifold, offset Holley carburetors, the special brake master cylinder block, a custom radiator shroud and upgraded ignition pieces. The engine bay also houses the OE fender tag, SS/AFX build tag and Martin’s personal signature, with headers feeding directly into the exhaust turndowns. Behind this is an A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, equipped with a Gear Vendors under/overdrive system, while the ubiquitous Dana 60 rear housing is visible from the rear.
