The Opel Grandland has added another role to its growing list of capabilities. Known as a stylish family SUV and practical daily driver, the flagship Opel SUV has now been transformed into a fully equipped police patrol vehicle designed for modern law enforcement operations.
The specially prepared Opel Grandland recently made its public debut at the General Police Equipment Exhibition and Conference (GPEC) in Leipzig, Germany. The event showcases the latest technologies and equipment used by police, security agencies, and emergency response organizations. Visitors had the opportunity to see the new patrol vehicle equipped with specialized police hardware and advanced safety systems.
To create the patrol vehicle, Opel partnered with engineering and vehicle conversion specialist EDAG. The company outfitted the Grandland with the equipment necessary for daily police operations, including emergency warning systems, radio communication preparation, special lighting, and highly visible reflective markings. These modifications allow the SUV to meet the demanding requirements of modern law enforcement agencies.
Powering the police Grandland is Opel’s plug in hybrid powertrain that delivers a combined 225 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The electrified drivetrain is paired with a seven speed dual clutch transmission, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.8 seconds. The vehicle is also capable of reaching a top speed of approximately 137 mph, making it more than capable of handling emergency response duties and highway patrol assignments.
Inside the vehicle, officers benefit from a range of comfort and technology features designed to support long shifts behind the wheel. The Grandland Ultimate trim includes electrically adjustable Intelli Seat Pro seating, advanced multimedia navigation, a large 16 inch touchscreen display, and a 360 degree Intelli Vision camera system. Adaptive Intelli Lux HD headlights further enhance visibility during nighttime patrols and adverse weather conditions.
Safety remains a major focus of the patrol vehicle conversion. The Grandland features highly reflective and fluorescent markings based on VESBA 2.0 standards, making the vehicle easily recognizable in both daytime and nighttime conditions. These markings improve visibility around accident scenes, traffic stops, and other emergency situations where officer safety is critical.
Additional law enforcement equipment includes a HƤnsch DBS 4000 emergency warning system, front and rear flashers, public address functionality, specialized radio installation components, LED interior lighting, fire extinguishers, emergency tools, and other police specific hardware. Together, these features transform the Opel Grandland from a premium SUV into a fully functional patrol vehicle ready for active duty.
The introduction of the Opel Grandland Police Vehicle demonstrates how modern electrified SUVs are becoming increasingly attractive options for government fleets and emergency services. By combining performance, efficiency, technology, and specialized equipment, Opel has created a patrol vehicle that meets the evolving needs of law enforcement while showcasing the versatility of its flagship SUV.
