Maserati Celebrates 100 Years of the Trident at the 2026 1000 Miglia
Maserati returned to one of Italyās most celebrated automotive events in 2026 with a tribute that perfectly blended history, heritage, and performance. As the iconic 1000 Miglia made its journey across the Italian countryside, Maserati used the occasion to celebrate a remarkable milestone, the 100th anniversary of the Trident logo, one of the most recognizable symbols in automotive history.
The 2026 edition of the 1000 Miglia carried special significance for the Modena based automaker. The event forms part of Maserati’s Year of the Trident celebrations, commemorating a century since the famous emblem first appeared on the Tipo 26 race car. That same vehicle delivered Maserati’s first major racing victory at the 1926 Targa Florio, establishing a competitive spirit that continues to define the brand today.
At the center of Maserati’s participation was a stunning 1953 Maserati A6 GCS/53. This historic race car is deeply connected to the original 1000 Miglia and is believed to have made more appearances in the legendary event than any other Maserati. Chassis number 2043 competed in five consecutive editions of the original race between 1953 and 1957, making it one of the most important vehicles in the company’s motorsport history.
The A6 GCS/53 was driven by owner Igor Zanisi and his daughter Lara Zanisi, creating a unique family story that reflected the emotional connection many enthusiasts have with the Maserati brand. Their participation also served as a tribute to Maria Teresa de Filippis, the pioneering racing driver who became the first woman to qualify for and compete in a Formula One Grand Prix. Driving a Maserati 250F in 1958, De Filippis remains one of the most influential figures in motorsport history, and 2026 marks the centenary of her birth.
While the historic A6 GCS/53 represented Maserati’s racing past, the company also used the event to showcase its modern lineup. Support vehicles included the GranTurismo, GranTurismo Trofeo, GranCabrio, and GranCabrio Trofeo. These models featured exclusive anniversary liveries inspired by legendary Maserati vehicles including the Tipo 26, A6 1500, 250F, and 3500 GT. The special designs created a visual bridge between the company’s historic achievements and its modern luxury performance vehicles.
The 1000 Miglia route covered nearly 1,900 kilometers through some of Italy’s most picturesque regions, following the classic Brescia to Rome and back to Brescia format. More than 400 historic automobiles from around the world participated in the event, which remains widely regarded as one of the most beautiful automotive competitions ever created. Maserati’s presence throughout the route allowed spectators to experience both the brand’s rich history and its current vision for performance and elegance.
One of the most symbolic moments occurred as the race passed through Modena, the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley and the birthplace of Maserati. For a company celebrating a century of its iconic logo, there could be no more fitting location to showcase the vehicles that have shaped its legacy over generations.
The 2026 1000 Miglia was more than just another appearance for Maserati. It served as a celebration of a century of innovation, competition, and Italian craftsmanship. By bringing together historic race cars, modern grand tourers, and tributes to legendary figures such as Maria Teresa de Filippis, Maserati demonstrated how its past continues to inspire its future.
As the Year of the Trident celebrations continue, the brand’s participation in the 1000 Miglia stands as a powerful reminder of why Maserati remains one of the most respected names in automotive history. One hundred years after the Trident first appeared on a race car, its legacy continues to thrive on roads and racetracks around the world.
