In an era when flashy colors were hot, to use black paint contrasted with a white interior and white wing was unusual. In fact, this is the only 4-speed Hemi Charger Daytona produced in this color combination, with just 22 Charger Daytonas produced in any color with the 426 Hemi and 4-speed manual transmission driveline.

Underneath the expansive hood lurks the 426 CI Hemi V-8 engine, Chrysler’s warrior in orange with the hemispherical cylinder heads and dual Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetors. This car came with the A34 Super Track Pak as well, which meant the heavy-duty A833 4-speed manual transmission, a Dana 60 Sure Grip differential with 4.10 gearing, power front disc brakes and extreme-duty cooling equipment. The car was built on heavy-duty frame components with Hemi-engineered suspension parts and shared the luxurious appointments reserved for the Charger R/T model. Power steering is here as well.

The exterior of this model needs no explanation, refined from the fires of competition after Dodge lost the 1969 Daytona 500 by inches. These cars began arriving at dealerships to an incredulous public fewer than eight months later, the pointed nose cone and tall rear wing added to legalize race parts functional above 180 MPH. Inside, this car hosts white front bucket seats and a center console, a Hurst floor shifter, a dash with optional N96 Tic-Toc-Tach and the expensive Solid State AM radio with 8-track player. The Charger’s legendary styling remained, with bulging fenders, a flip-open gas cap, HEMI door tags and driver’s side remote mirror.

Perhaps this car’s most distinctive features are the color-matched steel wheels with small-diameter hubcaps and U64 white-stripe tires, which perfectly accent the car’s special ā€œtuxedo formalā€ dĆ©cor; in fact, this car was displayed at the 2024 MCACN show. Documentation includes the original $5,324 window sticker from the Western Carolina Dodge franchise in Easley, South Carolina, as well as the original build sheet and warranty book.
