A legendary piece of Mopar history has surfaced for sale, and it’s turning heads across the muscle-car community. This 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible isn’t just a restored classic — it’s one of the earliest documented Pro Street builds, originally crafted in the mid-1970s by Robert Paul “Tach” Mooney. Nearly 50 years later, the car still stands as an icon of early street-machine engineering.

Now located in Sloatsburg, New York, the car is being offered by owner Tony Harlin for $90,000.

A Pro Street Pioneer

Long before the Pro Street look became a widespread trend in the 1980s and ’90s, this Dart was already rolling with massive power, drag-style components, and a muscular stance. Built during a time when few were experimenting with street-legal race machinery, it’s often recognized within enthusiast circles as one of the first Pro Street Dodge Darts ever assembled.

The car stays true to that original concept, combining wild horsepower with road-ready manners.

1,337 Horsepower of Old-School Violence

Under the hood sits an all-aluminum Keith Black Hemi — the heart and soul of the build. Topped with an 8-71 blower, the engine is claimed to produce an astonishing 1,300 horsepower, pushing this convertible far beyond typical classic-car performance.

Power is fed through a 727 automatic transmission equipped with a 3,500-rpm stall converter, backed by a Gear Vendors overdrive for improved drivability. Out back, a Dana 60 with 4.56 gears ensures the Dart can put all that power to the pavement.

To help manage this output, the car is equipped with Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, offering confident stopping power — an essential addition for a machine with this level of performance.

Classic Looks, Race-Ready Hardware

Despite its aggressive powertrain, the Dart maintains the timeless look Mopar fans love. Finished in a bright red exterior with a clean white interior, the convertible body style adds a unique flair not often seen in Pro Street builds.

The drivetrain has been freshly rebuilt, according to the seller, presenting the car as both a collector’s piece and a ready-to-enjoy street machine.

A Rare Opportunity for Mopar Enthusiasts

Authentic Pro Street builds from the early era rarely appear on the market — especially ones with this level of historical significance and performance credibility. For collectors who appreciate the roots of the movement, this 1968 Dart GTS Convertible represents a standout opportunity.

With its combination of heritage, craftsmanship, and extreme horsepower, it’s a machine that delivers both nostalgia and neck-snapping capability.
