Oftentimes, when a builder wants to do a customization, they will start with a fairly sedate base model. That’s not the case here. This reworked 1971 Dodge Charger is not only a factory R/T, but is one of the 30 such cars assembled that year with the rare factory power sunroof.

This vehicle was converted to its current status by noted Mopar restorer and engine builder Dave Dudek, who also executed the car’s overall restoration. For power, a modern 6.2L Hellcat-sourced Hemi V-8 engine was installed, with air intakes relocated in the car’s inner headlamp locations. The engine bay also hosts air conditioning, an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, headers feeding dual exhaust ending in correct slotted exhaust tips and the SRT-tagged blower casing. The transmission is a Passon Performance 5-speed manual, and this car is upgraded with modern suspension pieces, including power rack-and-pinion steering and a 4-wheel Wilwood disc brake system with Hydroboost power assist.

Any R/T was an upscale vehicle to begin with, and adding to this one’s optional roof is Gunmetal Gray paint, a black louvered hood and body graphics plus body-color sport mirrors. Inside, it was given leather interior upholstery, including a set of six-way bucket seats. There are power windows, a buddy seat, special SRT door identification, the floor-mounted Pistol Grip shifter, a Rallye dash, a three-spoke sport steering wheel and factory-style AM/FM radio. The outside still showcases OEM detailing with the R/T emblems, script Charger logos, fender-mounted turn signal indicators and modern 17-inch wheels styled like the old Magnum 500 road wheels. Once completed, this car was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine. For today’s discerning buyer, the car contains all the right stuff—scarce factory optioning, modern horsepower and driveline parts, luxury interior appointments, and name-grade heritage and recognition.
