2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry Brings Off Road Style and Capability to the Lineup
Ram is expanding its off road truck lineup with the introduction of the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry. Designed to sit between the Warlock and the Rebel in the Ram lineup, this new model offers a strong mix of rugged capability, bold styling, and comfort features for drivers who want an off road ready truck without stepping all the way up to the more expensive trims.

The new BackCountry package builds on the Ram 1500 Big Horn platform and adds several upgrades that give it a tougher look and better trail performance.
Pricing and Position in the Ram Lineup
The 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry starts at $62,410 including destination. This places it below the Rebel model in pricing but above the standard Big Horn trim it is based on.
Ram essentially created the BackCountry as a middle ground option for buyers who want serious off road hardware but still want the comfort and features found in higher trim trucks. The package itself costs about $2,995 over a standard Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab.
Engine Options and Performance
Under the hood, the BackCountry comes standard with Ramās twin turbocharged 3.0 liter inline six engine that produces around 420 horsepower and 469 lb ft of torque. The engine is paired with an eight speed automatic transmission that delivers strong acceleration and smooth performance.

For buyers who still prefer a traditional V8 sound and feel, Ram also offers the returning 5.7 liter HEMI V8 as an option. That engine produces about 395 horsepower and 410 lb ft of torque and costs roughly $1,200 extra.
Both engines give the BackCountry solid capability whether it is being used on trails, hauling gear, or towing equipment.
Built for the Trail
Ram equipped the BackCountry with several features aimed at improving off road capability. The truck includes a factory one inch suspension lift that increases ground clearance and helps the truck handle rough terrain more easily.
Other off road upgrades include underbody skid plates, upgraded shocks, and a rear electronic locking differential. The truck rides on 18 inch wheels wrapped in aggressive 32 inch all terrain tires.
Additional details like front tow hooks and fender flare extensions further highlight the truckās rugged purpose.
Interior Comfort and Technology
Although the BackCountry focuses on off road performance, it still maintains the comfortable interior that Ram trucks are known for. Every model starts with the Big Horn Level 1 Equipment Package which includes heated front seats, a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, and heated power folding mirrors.

Buyers can upgrade to the Level 2 Equipment Package for even more technology. This package adds a larger 12 inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, power adjustable front seats, dual zone climate control, and an upgraded audio system.
The result is a truck that balances off road capability with everyday comfort.
A Growing Market for Off Road Trucks
Ram continues to expand its off road offerings as demand for adventure focused trucks keeps growing. Buyers are increasingly looking for trucks that can handle trails, camping trips, and outdoor activities while still functioning as daily drivers.
The BackCountry helps fill a gap in the Ram lineup by offering many of the same rugged upgrades found on higher end off road models but at a slightly lower price point.
A Smart Addition to the Ram Lineup
With its lifted suspension, aggressive styling, and strong engine options, the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry adds another interesting option to Ramās already wide truck lineup.
For drivers who want a capable off road truck that still delivers comfort and technology, the BackCountry may end up being the perfect middle ground between work truck practicality and serious trail performance.
