Opel Motorsport Continues to Shape the Rally Stars of Tomorrow
For decades, Opel Motorsport has played an important role in developing young drivers and giving them a path into professional rally racing. Today the German automaker continues that tradition through a structured talent development system that has already produced several international rally champions.

Since 2013, Opel has worked closely with ADAC to build one of the most effective junior rally programs in Europe. The program focuses on giving young drivers affordable access to competitive racing while providing a clear path toward international championships.
This approach has helped Opel establish a reputation as a true talent factory for rally drivers looking to build a professional career.
A Proven Development Pyramid
At the center of Opelās development system is a step by step progression that begins in the one make rally cup. Drivers compete in a controlled environment where every competitor uses the same vehicle, allowing talent to stand out rather than budget or equipment.
The champions of this series earn a spot in the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team, where they compete in the Junior European Rally Championship. This creates a clear ladder from entry level rally competition to international racing.

The formula has proven extremely successful. In the past nine seasons alone, drivers from the Opel junior program have captured six Junior European Rally Championship titles.
These results demonstrate how effective the system has been at identifying and developing future rally stars.
Champions Who Started with Opel
Several well known rally drivers began their careers through Opelās development program. Champions such as Emil Bergkvist, Marijan Griebel, Chris Ingram, Martins Sesks, Laurent Pellier, and Calle Carlberg all won Junior European Championship titles after progressing through the Opel ladder.
Many of these drivers have continued to achieve success beyond the junior ranks. Some have gone on to win national championships or compete at the highest levels of international rallying.
The program has also helped develop talent in the German Rally Championship and other European competitions, proving that the system consistently produces drivers capable of competing at elite levels.
Electric Rallying Opens a New Chapter
In recent years Opel has also introduced electrification into its rally development program. The ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup was launched as the worldās first all electric one make rally series, providing a new platform for young drivers while supporting the future of sustainable motorsport.

The series has now evolved into the ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup, which will use the new Opel Mokka GSE Rally competition car. The electric rally machine produces up to 207 kW, or about 281 horsepower, along with 345 Nm of torque, delivering performance comparable to Rally4 level competition vehicles.
The introduction of electric rally technology allows Opel to combine driver development with cutting edge innovation.
The 2026 Season and What Comes Next
The upcoming ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup season will feature seven rounds across six European countries including Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Italy.
The season will begin with the ELE Rally in Eindhoven at the end of May and will include a major appearance at the historic Rally Sanremo later in the year.

Young drivers from across Europe will compete for the chance to prove their skills and earn a place in the Opel Rally Junior Team, continuing the brandās long tradition of nurturing new rally talent.
A Legacy of Building Future Champions
Motorsport has always been part of Opelās identity, but its focus on driver development has made the brand especially important in rally racing. By giving young drivers real opportunities to compete and progress through the ranks, Opel Motorsport continues to shape the future of the sport.

With its electric rally series and proven development ladder, the company remains committed to discovering and supporting the next generation of rally champions.
